Overview

The COA Validation Web Service allows clients (whether persons or machines) to check the validity of General Ledger chart strings used in financial transactions on the UC Berkeley campus. To validate a chartstring, look up COA by Speedtype, or to Lookup Contacts now, select the menu item at the left.

Graphical user interface (GUI) clients are available for installation locally using Java Web Start (see Validation Clients links), and HowTo documents are provided for those who wish to access the web service via Java, PHP, and .Net clients.

The COA Validation Web Service was developed collaboratively by staff in several departments of Berkeley's Information Systems and Technology. An article in Berkeley Computing & Communications (Fall 2004) describes that collaboration; and a companion article in the same issue describes the development methodology used.
